Red wine from Japan — Yamanashi, Japan
GURUNA YAMA Sauvignon Merlot Barrel Aged 2019 (Red)
CHAMP CLAIRE / Yamanashi, Japan
About this wine
CHAMP CLAIRE's GURUNA YAMA Sauvignon Merlot Barrel Aged 2019 (Red) is a medium-bodied, dry red Japanese wine from Yamanashi Prefecture. This 2019 vintage has an alcohol content of 12.5% and uses grapes harvested from their own vineyard in Akeno Town, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
In Akeno Town, located at an altitude of 700m and boasting some of Japan's longest sunshine hours, Yama Sauvignon and Merlot grapes are barrel-aged, nurtured by abundant sun and refreshing breezes. By combining the wild nuances of Yama Sauvignon with the smooth texture of Merlot, a rich fruitiness and harmonious taste are achieved.
Immediately after opening, you'll notice fresh fruitiness and a firm acidity, but as it rests for a few days, it gradually becomes more mellow, with a rich aroma and tannins blending together to evolve beautifully. Around the 4th to 5th day after opening, pairing it with spicy dishes like yuzu pepper or sansho, or with sauce-based dishes, will bring out the complex charm unique to this wine.
