QAUGURA Sangiovese 2023 (Red)

OKAYAMA wine valley / Okayama, Japan

About this wine

From the OKAYAMA wine valley in Okayama Prefecture, QAUGURA Sangiovese 2023 is made from grapes grown in two vineyards: Miyano-tōge vineyard, a rocky, barren land with limestone, and Rōei vineyard, cultivated on a south-facing slope. Both vineyards meticulously grow grapes using the "Okayama Method" trellising technique, a cultivation and management system renowned for producing high-quality table grapes that Okayama is proud of. This is a medium-bodied, dry red wine crafted for the 2023 vintage, using Nebbiolo as its base, similar to the Italian Sangiovese variety, with an alcohol content of 12%.

The name of this red wine, "QAUGURA," is a portmanteau combining Bichu Kagura, a traditional local culture, with "augura," an Italian word meaning wishes or hopes. The label expresses the power of Bichu Kagura dance. While it has a bright ruby or garnet color, it offers a satisfying finish with concentrated fruit notes like cherry and plum, complemented by firm tannins, French oak barrel aromas, and a well-balanced acidity and spiciness characteristic of Sangiovese.

As an option for a relaxed evening with red wine, why not quietly open this 750ml bottle? You can slowly savor the pleasant lingering finish that unfolds beautifully with time, as if confirming it right there and then.
